open shelves.
I have been using my workshop in its present form for several years. Generally it works well. Lathe and sharpening system on the back bench, at right angles another bench with my chop saw in a recess and a measure either side. On the window wall (opposite the lathe) my main workbench with two vices and on the fourth wall some old fireplaces which hold some of my larger machines ready to be wheeled out when required.
The only problem is the storage under the chop saw. It was set up using old shop fittings and had open shelves. As a result everything on them was covered in dust. The other issue was the bench was not fully supported and had started to distort.
A trip to the usual diy shed and I was the proud owner of 5 new kitchen units to replace the shelving.
New cabinets
The old shelving was removed, the area cleaned in preparation for the new cabinets. The first two were easy being both full height and full depth. The third cabinet which supports the saw had to be cut down in height by 54mm to form the recess. The last two cabinets had to be cut down in depth to allow easy access for materials and projects through the door
Once the cabinets were in place and level, the worktop was replaced, doors fitted on the cabinets and all the paints, oils, waxes and polishes were returned to the under bench storage.
The cabinets have increased the amount of storage and hopefully considerably reduced the amount of dust hitting the finishing products
