Logo/ trade mark

 Identifying my work.

For some time I have been trying to find a means of marking items I make as a way of advertising and perhaps getting extra orders.

In the past I have routered 'Mr H Woodwork' and added the date, but  this is not possible on a chopping board or some of the smaller items I make. It is also quite time consuming.

A neighbour suggested using a sticker with a QR code but that would be an issue with the oil and wax finishes I use on my work.

Another thought was a laser or some sort of branding iron but the costs involved in either of these methods were considerable.

Whatever I decided the logo needed designing to be small and readily reproduced.

Looking at my website a combination of Mr H Woodwork and the section through a log seemed like a good starting point.

Design and layout.

The push to get the logo sorted came about when I got the order from the local cheese shop. Christmas was approaching and hints were dropped about a branding iron.

A visit to RHS Rosemoor and a chance conversation with a woodworker at a craft fair there got me thinking about my pyrography pen as a way to get the logo on to my work.

I copied the log and lettering from my website and combined the two, then reduced it in size. Carbon paper was used to transfer the design then the pyrography pen to mark the surface of a scrap of Oak.

The first attempt was far too busy, second attempt was better, but the layout was not just right. A bit of adjustment and two more attempts and I was happy. All I have to do now is remember to put it on my completed jobs. The left side of last image is final design. Please let me know what you think.
