Village hall event

 Stall preparation

I decided to have a stall at a local fund raiser at the village hall. At previous events I have had to make stock to fill the stand and this was no exception.

I checked what items I had left from previous events and decided to make some more small cheese boards. I had also made some mixed wood boards from off cuts for a customer order, as these seemed popular I also produced a few of them.

At the arts trail I sold out of my resin Christmas decorations and got rid of all my barrel stave bowls and the kitchen roll sheep, so they had to be made as well.

Resin decorations

The off cuts from the corners of the cheese boards I produce had been a puzzle for some time. I felt sure I could put them to use.

Getting two offcuts back to back gave a tree shape and I thought I could drill them and put coloured resin in the holes then slice, attach hangers and use as tree decorations for Christmas.

This has been going on for several years. Using 40mm thick timber and trying to get the resin to run down the holes without air bubbles was a major issue, resulting in many failures. I then tried wrapping release tape around the back and sides of previously sliced blocks, but again the resin ran through resulting in more failures.

Success came by slicing and sanding the tree shapes then rolling release tape on the back surface only, pressing it down with a small wall paper roller. Resin poured in from the top then sanding once set and attaching a small length of ribbon with superglue and a copper ferrule .
